Allu Arjun Arrested Over Hyderabad Pushpa 2 Premiere Stampede
Arjun’s lawyers file petition to prevent arrest until Monday. Hearing set for 2:30 PM.

Telugu cinema icon Allu Arjun was taken into police custody on Friday in connection with a tragic stampede during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2 in Hyderabad on December 4. The incident, which occurred at Sandhya Theatre, led to the death of a woman and left her son in critical condition. In response to the chaos, authorities have filed charges against the theatre management, Arjun, and his security team for their roles in the incident.
The case was filed by the police under sections BNS 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) r/w 3(5) (voluntary causing hurt or grievous hurt). According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Akshansh Yadav, stringent action will be taken against all responsible parties as the investigation unfolds. “We are committed to ensuring accountability for the tragic events that unfolded in the theatre,” Yadav told The Indian Express.
Allu Arjun was arrested by officers from Chikkadpally police station, where the complaint had been lodged. His legal team quickly filed a lunch motion petition in the Telangana High Court, requesting that Arjun not be arrested until Monday. This petition is set to be heard at 2:30 PM today.

Despite his legal challenge, authorities went to Arjun’s residence on Friday, where they arrested him without objection. However, sources reveal that the actor expressed discomfort with the police’s approach, noting that they entered his private space without prior notice and did not allow him to change clothes or finish his meal.
As he was escorted from his home, Arjun asked for a cup of tea and water, and was seen reassuring his wife. His father, veteran film producer Allu Aravind, accompanied him to the police station. After providing his statement, the actor was taken to Gandhi Hospital for a routine check-up before being presented before a magistrate.
Meanwhile, the situation at Sandhya Theatre is under intense scrutiny. Officers revealed that the theatre management failed to make adequate arrangements to control the crowd. A lack of separate entry and exit for the film’s team compounded the chaos. At around 9:30 PM, Arjun and his security team arrived, but as they entered, the crowd attempted to surge forward, and security measures escalated the tension.
The investigation is ongoing, with police pledging to hold all involved parties accountable for their actions. Stay tuned for further developments in this high-profile case.
