NCERT Promotes PM e-Vidya App for Free Access to Quality Education Anytime

New Delhi, January 30, 2026: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has put out a fresh call to students and parents to download the PM e-Vidya mobile app. In a post on social media today, NCERT highlighted how the app offers round-the-clock access to free educational content, making learning easier no matter where you are.
The app, which came out last year, acts as a single gateway to several government-run digital education platforms. It is part of the larger PM e-Vidya programme that started during the pandemic to ensure no child misses out on studies because of lack of access.
What Makes the PM e-Vidya App Special
At its core, the PM e-Vidya app pulls together resources that were earlier spread across different websites and channels. Students can now open one app and find everything from video lessons to e-books without jumping between platforms.
One of the biggest draws is access to 200 DTH television channels under the Swayam Prabha banner. These channels run educational programmes tailored for different classes. Many homes in rural areas already have DTH connections, so families can watch live classes on TV even if internet is slow or unavailable.
The app also connects directly to DIKSHA, the national digital platform that has lakhs of lessons, worksheets, and energised textbooks prepared by teachers and experts. Most of this content follows the NCERT syllabus, so it matches what children study in school.
For older students looking beyond school, there are links to SWAYAM courses that offer free online classes from top colleges and universities. There is also material to help prepare for competitive exams through platforms like SATHEE.

Reaching Every Corner Through Multiple Modes
A key strength of the PM e-Vidya initiative has always been its multi-mode approach. The app keeps that spirit alive by including radio programmes and podcasts. These are especially useful in remote villages where internet penetration is still low. All India Radio and community radio stations broadcast lessons for classes 1 to 12, and many of these can be accessed through the app.
Younger children get extra attention through resources like e-Jaadui Pitara, which focuses on play-based learning for early years. There is also a national e-library section where students can read thousands of books online for free.
Support for More Than 30 Languages
One feature that stands out is the wide language coverage. The app gives access to content in over 30 Indian languages, from Hindi and Tamil to Assamese and Manipuri. This means children who are more comfortable studying in their mother tongue do not have to struggle with English-medium material alone.
NCERT has been working hard to create and translate quality content in regional languages. With the app, finding lessons in your preferred language has become much simpler.
Inclusive Education for Children with Special Needs
The government has made sure no child is left behind. The app includes special e-content designed for children with visual or hearing impairments and other disabilities. Sign language videos, audio books, and accessible textbooks help make learning possible for everyone.
This focus on inclusion aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, which stresses equitable education for all.
How the App Came About and Why It Matters Now
The PM e-Vidya programme was launched in May 2020 when schools shut down because of Covid-19. The idea was to reach students through whatever means available – TV, radio, online portals, or mobile apps.
Initially, there were 12 dedicated DTH channels, one for each class from 1 to 12. In the 2022 Union Budget, the government announced expansion to 200 channels to cover more subjects, languages, and levels. Today those 200 channels form a major part of what the app offers.
The mobile app itself was released in June 2025 by NCERT under the Ministry of Education. Since then, regular updates have fixed bugs and improved performance. It is available free on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
With board exams approaching and a new academic session not far away, NCERT’s latest push comes at the right time. Many students, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, still face challenges with private coaching or internet speed. The app removes those barriers by bringing high-quality, curriculum-aligned material straight to their phones.
Easy to Download and Use
Getting started is straightforward. On Android devices, search for “PM eVidya” on the Play Store or use the official link shared by NCERT. iPhone users can find it on the App Store under the same name.
Once installed, the app asks for basic permissions and then opens up the dashboard with clear sections for DIKSHA content, live channels, radio, and more. Parents can also use it to track what their children are studying.
Teachers too benefit. They can recommend specific lessons or energised textbooks directly from the app.
Bridging the Digital Divide Step by Step
India has made big strides in school education over the years, but gaps remain between urban and rural areas. Initiatives like PM e-Vidya are helping close those gaps without costing families anything extra.
By putting everything in one free app, the government has made it easier for students to study at their own pace. Whether it is revising a difficult chapter at night, catching a live class on TV, or listening to a radio podcast while travelling, options are now plenty.
Experts believe such platforms will play a bigger role as India moves towards the goals set in the National Education Policy. With more households getting smartphones and affordable data plans, apps like PM e-Vidya can reach even more children in the coming years.
For now, NCERT’s message is clear download the app today and make learning simpler and more accessible.
Parents and students looking for reliable, free study material need.
